Beaver Lake Watershed Symposium

The Beaver Lake and Watershed Symposium is a program designed for anyone with an interest in learning more about the water quality of Beaver Lake, outreach programs taking place, best management practices that are being applied within the watershed, and technical information. This program is free, but requires an RSVP to participate. The program is usually held in September and is organized by the Beaver Watershed Alliance and the Arkansas Water Resource Center.

2017 Beaver Lake Watershed Symposium: Focusing on the Forest

Rapid growth and development is forecasted for NWA, and the region continues to hit the hot lists of places to live due to our high quality of life. The resulting land use change is anticipated to decrease forested land cover by approximately ten-percent, which will greatly affect the quality of water in Beaver Lake and its tributaries. The pressure of growth and potential loss of nearly approximately 85 square miles, creates a need to retain and best manage as much forested land as possible. The forested land in Beaver Lake is essential to providing and maintaining the high quality water source that provides water for a half-million people in three states and fuels our regional economy. For these reasons this year’s symposium will “focus on the forest for source water protection” and we hope you will attend to learn more about this important issue with presentations on:

  • Components of a Healthy Forest
  • Urban Forest and Community Forest Management
  • Forest Management in Devil’s Eyebrow and Hobbs State Park
  • Forested Land and Water Quality in the Beaver Lake Watershed
  • Arkansas Forest and Drinking Water Collaborative
  • Forest Management from a Landowner’s Perspective

The program will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and will be held in Elkins at the Elkins Community Center located at 162 Doolin Drive. Please RSVP to info@beaverwatershedalliance.org or by phone (479) 750 – 8007 if you would like to attend.
