SUMMARY:Land Management Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Pasture and forest landowners in the War Eagle Creek watershed are invited to a field day to learn about management practices that can improve forested and grazed lands. Practices to be covered will include ponds\, unpaved roads\, how to manage erosion\, and pasture improvement techniques. Participants will learn about practical conservation practices and how to apply for financial assistance to cover 75%\, or up to 90%\, of the cost. Technical assistance will be provided to help fill out applications for funding and set up free site visits. \nThe workshop will be held at the Spurlock Farm near Huntsville on November 15\, 2023\, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; lunch will be provided at no cost. \nBeaver Watershed Alliance is working with event partners\, including USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Services\, USDA-Farm Service Agency\, and additional sponsorship provided by Beaver Water District and Cargill Cares. \nThe Land Management Field Day is a program in conjunction with the War Eagle Creek Watershed Initiative (WECWI) Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP)\, funded by the US Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Services. Over $2 million in funding is dedicated to landowners in the War Eagle watershed to improve land and water resources. War Eagle Creek contributes 1/3 of the water supplies to Beaver Lake\, our region’s drinking water source. The RCPP program started in 2023 and will go through 2027; however\, funding is limited\, and landowners are encouraged to start the application process now. \nPlease RSVP by emailing info@beaverwatershedalliance.org or calling 479-750-8007. \n

SUMMARY:2023 Friendraiser

Purchase tickets below! \nThursday\, September 21st  |  6:00 pm – 8:30 pm  |  Bunch Park\, Elkins\, AR \nEach year\, the Alliance hosts an annual Friendraiser to celebrate another year of successful watershed protection. The Friendraiser is a celebration of these efforts\, bringing together landowners and stakeholders that work together to keep local lands and waterways healthy and resilient. \nIf you prefer to pay by check\, please call 479-750-8007 to register. SUMMARY:Glade Ecology & Management Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Join the Beaver Watershed Alliance for a free\, family-friendly educational glade ecology and management field day at the Lake Leatherwood City Park’s Steven Foster Educational Glade in Eureka Springs\, AR.  \nWhen:  Wednesday\, May 24th\, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm noon \nWhere: Steven F. Foster Educational Glade; Lake Leatherwood City Park\, Eureka Springs\, AR. \n1303 Co Rd 204\, Eureka Springs\, AR 72632\, 36.434453\, -93.759812 (Main Building). \n36.43807\, -93.75872 (Steven F. Foster Educational Glade). \n  \nDetails: This walk-and-talk tour will feature educational speakers\, including Eric Fuselier with the Arkansas Native Plant Society\, Brittney Booth\, an expert on Ozark glade ecology\, and Nate Weston\, the Alliance’s Senior Geospatial Ecologist. Participants will see a restored Ozarks glade covered in blooming native wildflowers. They may even spot common glade animals like the beautiful eastern collared lizard! Participants will also learn what makes glades unique\, how effective glade management promotes plant and animal diversity\, and how these efforts improve water quality and local fisheries. \nThe Beaver Lake watershed is home to over 11\,000 glades\, many of which are smaller than an acre in size but possess some of the most biodiverse plant communities in North America. Effective management of glades can prevent habitat loss due to invasive species\, such as eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) and others\, save habitat for incredible creatures threatened by cedar infestations like the eastern collared lizard (Crotaphytus collaris)\, and create fish habitat in Beaver Lake by sinking cut cedar trees. \nThis field trip will include walking/hiking approximately half a mile\, mostly over unpaved dirt trails. Please be sure to wear appropriate footwear. The Alliance will provide water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and insect repellant\, but you are welcome to bring your own as well. Wearing a brimmed hat and sunglasses is also recommended as the glade itself will be in full sun and very bright. \nTo RSVP or for more information\, email info@beaverwatershedalliance.org or text/call 479-750-8007 \nDownload Flyer \nThank you to event sponsors and partners: National Fish Habitat Partnership\, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission\, Bass Pro Shops\, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\, Beaver Water District\, Eureka Springs Parks & Recreation Department\, and the Arkansas Native Plant Society. \n

SUMMARY:Private Lands Partners Day
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for Private Lands Partners Day 2022\nThe Illinois River watershed has over 1\,000 miles of streams and covers over 1 million acres in the Ozark Highlands region of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. Karst features\, such as sinkholes\, spring-fed streams\, and caves\, are common across the region. The historical ecology included hardwood and pine forests\, savannas\, and tall grass prairies. \nToday\, most of the land use consists of agriculture and expanding urban/ residential areas. Poultry and cattle are the primary agricultural land uses; pastureland and hay fields being common. This region\, like many across Missouri\, Arkansas\, Oklahoma\, Kansas\, and the region depend on partnerships that improve water quality\, wildlife habitat\, and the productivity of private lands. \nFayetteville\, the site of the Private Lands Partners Day 2022\, lies in the heart of a region with double-digit annual population growth\, one of the fastest in the Southeastern United States\, as well as extensive public and private lands used for hunting\, fishing\, recreation\, and agriculture. This tremendous urban growth puts enormous pressure on natural resources\, water quality\, agriculture\, and the rural character and way of life of this region. Partners here have worked together with landowners for many years to identify\, protect\, and improve lands of high value from an ecological\, agricultural\, and historical perspective. The 2022 Private Lands Partners Day (PLPD) is a two-day event\, which will bring together private landowner leaders and partners from around Arkansas and across the country to share their personal experiences with cooperative efforts to conserve rural working landscapes along with habitat for fish and wildlife. \n  \n\nTUESDAY\, OCTOBER 4TH\nEvents will begin with a Partnerscapes board meeting all day and a reception for all attendees in the evening.\n\n\n\nWEDNESDAY\, OCTOBER 5TH\nField Trip Day\n\n\n\nTHURSDAY\, OCTOBER 6TH\nThursday will be meetings at the hotel followed by a closing dinner and auction.\n\n  \nClick HERE to register and for more information \n  \nAbout the host: Partnerscapes was established in 2008 and incorporated as Partners for Conservation in 2010\, Partnerscapes embodies a grassroots movement of private landowners working with agencies\, non-profit organizations\, and policymakers to collaborate on conservation projects to sustain our working landscapes for present and future generations. Partnerscapes represents the voices of 21st century conservation and the collective effort to support working landscapes through voluntary\, incentive-based public and private programs. Partnerscapes is a highly functional\, well-respected national organization operating with a small core staff\, active Board of Directors\, partner organizations and agencies. Partnerscapes has a growing presence across the 50 states. Partnerscapes’ program work and growth reflect highly held values and an exceptional reputation. \nThe Five Pillars of Partnerscapes \n\nLandowner-led\nCollaboration gets work done\nLocal lessons have national impact\nSupport voluntary incentive-based programs\nSustainability is a balance between ecology and economy

SUMMARY:Friendraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Alliance is inviting landowners and partners to please join us on Thursday\, September 22nd\, for the annual Alliance Friendraiser! This year’s event will be a PARTY IN THE PARK at Bunch Park\, across the street from the Elkins Community Center and Alliance offices. We’ll have a live band (Jumpsuit Jamey and the Can’t-Wait to Play Boys!)\, a BBQ dinner\, a silent auction\, landowner and partner awards\, and family fun in the park along the beautiful White River. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket to enjoy music on the lawn. (this event is family-friendly). \nEach year\, the Alliance hosts an annual Friendraiser to celebrate another year of successful watershed protection. It is the relationships and partnerships among agencies\, organizations\, landowners\, and other perspectives that help put funding on the ground to restore\, protect and enhance the Beaver Lake watershed. We want to celebrate YOU and your efforts that make NWA a great place to live\, farm\, work\, and play. Beaver Lake supplies drinking water to 1 in 6 Arkansans\, provides industries with the water needed to produce products and services and contributes over $101 million in visitor spending to the regional economy of Northwest Arkansas. Managing the watershed area\, or lands that drain into Beaver Lake\, including portions of Benton\, Carroll\, Washington\, and Madison counties\, takes a lot of collaboration and resources. The Friendraiser is a celebration of these efforts\, bringing together landowners and stakeholders that work together to keep local lands and waterways healthy and resilient \n  \nTickets to this fun-filled event will be $10 per individual or $20 per family (A family ticket covers a household). \nOnline ticket sales have closed. Limited tickets will be available to purchase day-of\, but please RSVP by emailing info@beaverwatershedalliance.org or by texting/calling 479-750-8007 \nIf you would prefer to pay for your ticket via check\, please email info@beaverwatershedalliance.org to RSVP and mail a check to: \nBeaver Watershed Alliance c/o Friendraiser\, PO Box 762\, Elkins\, AR 72727 \n
